You’re welcome to make your own cakes in our oven (yum) – provided free are all those extra useful ingredients like herbs, spices, sugar, flour, cooking essences etc. We also stock FREE RANGE eggs, so please don’t bring eggs with you, especially caged eggs 🙁
We offer a fully equipped kitchen with good quality cookware and sharp knives.
We even have a juicer and blender, so go hard and make your own juices and smoothies.
We stock over 30 herbs and spices, all free for you to use. We also grow a variety of organic chillies in our green house and garden, so if you like curry, you are in the right place! We encourage guests to cook great food at Jugglers Rest!
Breakfast ($5 extra per person)
Fresh bread is baked every morning with coffee, tea and delicious home made jams & marmalades.
These are made by Nikki from local organic produce – either from our garden or our neighbours. Flavours vary with the season – elderberry, grape, feijoa, raspberry, quince, grapefruit and pears are just some of the fruits that Nikki regularly jams.
In season homemade grape juice is also available and there is an ever changing variety of fresh fruits on offer too. If you’re gluten free or lactose intolerant we may also be able to provide smoothies made from local produce and lactose free milks.
Wallowing bean bags, comfy sofas and chairs and a real log fire to keep you toasty warm. There’s no television at Jugglers Rest but plenty of games, books (and book exchange), magazines, musical instruments, an extensive and varied CD collection and a wide variety of juggling/circus toys. Plenty to keep you entertained – whether you’re inside or out.
Our peaceful gardens are full of yummy things to eat and spaces to either play or relax. Shady verandas and hammocks provide quiet reading corners whilst the lawns are perfect for soaking up the sun or practicing elusive juggling moves.
Organic vegetables and herbs are available free for guests to use and fruit trees provide us with grapes, lemons, fejoias, plums and pears. We have fresh oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary, marjoram, several types of mint, parsley, pineapple sage, native kawakawa and sometimes even basil – all organic and all free for you to use fresh from our garden.
The BBQ area (yes there’s a gas BBQ available for guests to use) and outside tables are perfect for alfresco dining and drinking. In the evening fire torches are lit and weather and talent pending, fire and glow shows are provided for your entertainment and amazement!
Our inside bath is surrounded by plants and candles, perfect to soak away the strains of walking.
We have one washing machine. The washing machine is shared with the household. In the event of a queue we’re happy to service wash your clothes so you can enjoy your day.
It costs $5 a load – cold wash & $8 hot wash -detergent included. There is a washing line outside and an undercover line too. There’s also a launderette in town.
Jugglers Rest offers high speed broadband and wireless – so if you have a wireless device, log on and email at your leisure – wherever. Operating on the Zenbu wireless network, we offer some free internet to start you off – plenty to check emails & half an hour of Facebook… however, since we prefer our guests to interact and socialise we do not offer unlimited free internet!
There are plenty of free wifi hotspots around town that can be made use of.

Our driveway has space for two vehicles & several motorbikes. In addition there’s space for another five cars to park at the grass (off the road) on the side of the property on Devon Street. Also on Canterbury Street there is space on the road at the front of the hostel. There are no parking restrictions and no parking charges.
